DevlogWeek 1

Hi there! This is team KoMa, containing 2 members,  Kornelija V. (C21450736) and Max McCabe (C21486482)

We are coming in with an entirely new project for people to enjoy, one that is immersive and fun for everyone. But to get that far we will promptly begin creating prototypes for the first few weeks for different game ideas to try see what everyone prefers. Any comments would be great! So heres the first weeks news delivered by both of us.

WEEK ONE

Before anything, our main focus was to brainstorm some ideas that included a fun experience for the players through controls. Therefore a lot of the ideas were based off of the control and the rest of the game would be worked around it. We ended up with 10 total ideas! With this we chose one each and decided to make it a reality.  (a link is provided below the image to the actual Mind Map!)

Kornelija-----

I decided to do number 5 because I absolute LOVE when a game has anything to do with messed up controls and/or dizziness. Therefore i would love to add it to my prototype.

I started off with building the area and then adding the player movement script so that I could  based the speed and camera sensitivity on the area. I felt that it would work best with a first person based game with the camera affecting how the player moves as well as personally its one of my favourite ways of playing games.

Temporarily i made the bottle and the key to take effect when the player touches it but in the future im hopeful to changing it so that the player needs to click on it to interact! The bottle messed with the keyboard WASD and then the goal is to touch the key on the table to unlock the door (like an escape room!)

I tried to develop an effect for the players vision with post processing but due to errors i was not able to use it because even though the effects worked and changed the players vision, I could not set it to work only when the player got drunk but that could possibly be worked on next time!

The main idea of this game if I do end up using this prototype would be a series of the player facing effects of different items such as alcohol in the example and much more! Even leading to more fantasy related stuff the further you go down like a levitating mushroom! A series of escape rooms for the player to explore and learn how to control their movement while searching for the key to the next room. Goal is, get to the end in record time!

I chose option 2. It really stood out for me because I was interested in the different types of levels and what cool visuals I could make with the switching cameras.

I started with creating the two cameras. One from a birds eye view and one from the side view. Unity have a very good camera system in cinemachine. It allows you to add more than one camera. Change who they follow, look at, and how loose they are to the object they follow. I am able to change the camera view through states. I have "q" bind to switching the "states", which basically switched the camera in between the birds eye view and side view.

Next I added the ability to switch what "a" and "d" do. When on the  birds eye view, the "a" and "d" button move the object on the x-axis. And then on the side view "a" and "d" move the object along the z-axis.

I also added a jump function to add another level to the game.
