Devlog Week 4

Hello everyone! Kornelija here,  This week was a major step towards our project! Im excited to bring you along with us step by step on how we make this game up until the end.  First of all though, let me give y'all the big reveal of what the game will be ! We spent long and hard thinking of this one, and I think we both came to a satisfied conclusion that we could do!

Here we go! We decided to do a forest game ! Using the prototype from week 3, I thought it was much better to start from there rather than anything from scratch. I personally love 3D open world games so I decided I might as well do something like that! I love making something that brings players to the edges of their seats so of course I had to base a game where time is dire and enemies actually chase you! You may be thinking, but what is the game exactly, so let me tell you the plan!

It will be a first person game, where you live as a farmer. Yet one night unfortunately the animals you own escape the pen, Oh No!, and the goal is to bring all the animals back to the pen safely and secure them. But beware, hungry wolves lurk the woods, waiting for their dinner, its also super dark, therefore you need to use a flashlight to see your surroundings and find the animals ! But make sure to not waste battery! If you run out, you better know how to make it back home....

Phew! That was a long idea! We spent most of the week planning a game that could be fun ! But we did manage to begin a bit of the actual game!

This week I made the player, making them able to walk as well as giving the player mouse sensitive screen they can look around with! -Kind of like real life! I also added a crosshair on the screen, I personally love crosshairs! With those done i knew the next thing was to model a pen for the sheep to stay in ! Kept it quite simple yet looking like a real fence! With this, I'm definitely feeling ready for next week !

The first thing for me to do was sort out how the wolf  would chase you, and how the sheep will follow you. I began with a very primitive code for the wolf to follow you if you get close enough for it to see you. I used the same script for the animals following, but i added that the player needs to be holding a carrot in their hand for the sheep to follow you. If the  wolf comes into contact with you and the sheep. They will prioritize fighting the sheep, over the player, so we will add someway for the player to fend off the wolf.
